Fathers of Lutheran Orthodoxy: The Unaltered Augsburg Confession with Explanatory Notes and Scripture Proofs for School and Family with Introduction and a Brief History of its Origin, Translated from the German
Usually printed in 3 - 5 business days
Translator's Note: "This little volume is not designed as a theological treatise for ministers, but rather to furnish plain instruction for the people. Hence, the aim of the translator has been to state in simple yet sound language the great fundamental truths of our holy religion, so exactly and concisely set forth in the original German. In carrying out this work, he acknowledges his indebtedness to Prof. H. Gilbert for valuable hints on special points; to Mr. Werner Genzmer, for generous service in verifying translations; and to Rev. C. A. Fetzer for a careful revision of the entire work. The translation of the Confession by Dr. Krauth has been adopted, not only for the sake of uniformity, but also because of the excellency of its composition and its faithfulness to the original."
(Notes for Readers: This book is in English, and was prepared from a scan.)
This volume is part of a greater series entitled 'Fathers of Lutheran Orthodoxy.' The purpose of this series is to present great works of Lutheranism with a focus on the era of Lutheran Orthodoxy, although it also includes prominent works of the 19th and 20th centuries as well.
For too long, the rich theology of Lutheranism's past has been limited to libraries' rare book rooms and cumbersome online PDFs. Therefore, this series endeavors to take public domain books of the Lutheran confession and to make them available for anyone who desires these works in the form of a physical print. This series is meant to include mostly original Latin works, but some works may be in German and even in English.
The final goal is to create both accessibility and interest for studying and reading the works of Lutheran Orthodoxy, with the hope of creating renewed interest in scholars one day translating the rich theology of Lutheranism.
