This book about one pilot’s aviation career includes flying Boeing 737s across vast stretches of the Pacific Ocean to former wartime battlefields in Micronesia, Guadalcanal and the Gilbert Islands. His 18 years with the Royal Australian Air Force includes experience on the P51 Mustang, Sea Fury, the twin boomed Vampire jet fighter, and the four-engined Avro Lincoln heavy bomber.
Each of the thoroughly entertaining stories conveys the author’s love of flying from the time he first began in 1951. One chapter recounts his school boy recollections of great air battles between German and British fighters during the Battle of Britain. Another deals with grim tasks during aircraft accident investigations, both while in the RAAF and as a civil pilot.
