The Portioner was a cleric who was entitled to part of the tithes of the parish of Beddington and also had a house and some land. The office was of unknown origin even in the late middle ages. The last Portioner was appointed in the 16th century and the house then became the rectory. It was demolished in the 19th century. This volume is a report on the excavations of part the foundations and cellar. The structure dated back to the Tudor period but was later extended. The report combines the archaeological and documentary evidence and looks at the building, its development, and the finds including some unusual tin-glazed floor tiles.
