Joseph Jimmerson was born in 1977 in rural Montana and grew up in Northern Colorado. His lifelong passions include wildlife and nature, geography, language, history, environmental protection, photography, writing (and reading), drawing and designing, building, and exploring. He graduated from the US Air Force Academy in 1999. His Air Force assignments included ICBM Operations and Spacelift Range Operations. He continued his career as a NASA contractor, holding positions in project management, operations management, and engineering management. He was awarded the USAF Commendation Medal and the NASA Exceptional Public Service Medal. He remains active in rocketry, building and launching rockets of his own design.
Joseph holds advanced degrees in History and Aeronautical Science and teaches college-level Engineering courses. He is a certified Project Management Professional, and Certified Reliability Leader. He has traveled throughout America as well as Morocco, South Africa, Egypt, French Guiana, Bermuda, Barbados, Kenya, France, Denmark, Norway, Netherlands, and Svalbard. He supports the missions of 4Ocean, Sea Shepard, and Ubuntu Life.
Joseph is married and has three daughters and two sons. He lives in Maryland with his family where they enjoy the beach, kayaking, boating, camping, and of course, building stuff. In his “free time” Joseph reads adventure novels and history books, writes about his adventures, makes his own wine, and designs and builds boats.
