A cacophonous collage of word streams, collisions, non sequiturs, absurdities, and formal experimentations in which logic has no purpose and meanings are created through radical juxtapositions and images. These poems are an attempt to move beyond reason and to push the limits of poetics.
"Words—sometimes lovingly crafted, sometimes thrown against a wall—come at the reader in unexpected ways in automatic message. Sometimes they’re sparse, sometimes they’re upside down or sideways. There’s repetition, familiar phrases, and nonsense. But wait. There’s more. References. Images. Sounds. Ideas. Flowing, cascading, but there is no rhythm, at least not in an expected sense. Things are disjointed, forms dismantled and put back together again. Then broken apart. Nothing comes easy. Luckily, Joshua Martin’s words in this collection are so engaging and unpredictable that this is okay. His experimentation and diversity of form allow ample space to breathe and to wonder, though the reader still can’t shake a certain aura of fear, a feeling of claustrophobia, of trying to find their way through, or out, or in. Each poem is a new piece of the puzzle. From short stories to films I have always enjoyed Joshua Martin’s writing, and this collection of poetry is no different. It certainly shows not only his progression as a writer but also that he has achieved a singular voice, made up of many voices, all screaming at once, at the same time talking and laughing and crying and yelling out to this world which doesn’t seem to listen. It may be futile, but it sure is fun to read."
