I have recently completed my first novel, Ball In The Sky, which I have been working on since the summer of 2002. The story takes place in present day New York City. The time and place are crucial elements to the story, because the protagonist sees his environment as a chaotic stew of gradually receding traditional cultural norms and swiftly invading postmodern perspectives. I have attempted to portray a young man coming of age with a world view that straddles the transition between seeking truth through spirituality and seeking truth through science. His name is Hamlet. Hamlet and his mother suffer from bipolar disorder, and he marries a woman whose father was schizophrenic and committed suicide, so he yearns for a sense of confidence in the capabilities of psychological science. Unfortunately, Hamlet becomes isolated by the social stigma he faces, and his relationships grow wrought with misunderstanding and anger.
