LOVE LETTERS: UNDER, OVER, AND DIAGONALLY

Grieving the loss of a unique love in late middle age, Love Letters: Under, Over, and Diagonally combines metaphysical and imagist styles, and the poetic voices of the griever and her comforter-defender, as they address the lover who initiated the break-up. The poems reach beyond personal experience to universal themes of love, betrayal, time, and transformation. Hawaiian scholar Apo Perkins is a specialist in Hawaiian myth and chant, author of multiple collections of short stories and poems, and of the award-winning novel, The Oxridge Woman (1998). Watson-Gegeo is an anthropologist, sociolinguist, and poet whose research has been with Native Hawaiians and Kwara'ae people in Solomon Islands; she is the author of two earlier poetry collections, Silver Mirrors, and Silent They Are Lit.
