Based upon a journal by David Carlos Smith written in the 1970s, and later transcribed by his wife Ruth Smith, this memoir chronicles the early life of the author and includes details of numerous construction projects in Raleigh on which D.C. Smith worked. Many photographs are included, as well as a copy of the original manuscript and transciption. The book is edited by Karen Patricia Smith King, the favorite grandchild of D.C. and Ruth Smith, as well as the favorite daughter of Thomas William and Peggy Smith.
