The Counterpane Fairy

ByKatharine Pyle

An enchanting children’s fairy tale classic. The premise is simple - a child is ill and confined to bed where he has a patchwork quilt of many fabrics and patterns. He's bored. One day a little old lady climbs up his knees and offers to make him the hero in a story. To choose the story, he picks out a patch from his counterpane and that patch becomes a world. The stories are varied and lovely, and the different worlds that the bits of counterpane become are fascinating. As the hero, the child faces traditional challenges and some very new and unique ones as well. This book is a perfect read-aloud bedtime story, and is recommended for anyone with children.
