In
this work we will seek to reveal what we can of generations of Hawaiian people of our ancestry with the documents available.
Though Pua is but one of many lineages of Native Hawaiian ancestry we have, we have chosen to center her in this story as she lived
during one of the most transformative times in Hawaii. The ongoing
struggle by the Hawaiian people to reclaim the sovereignty and territory lost to the United States during the seizure of the Kingdom of
Hawaii and the overthrow of the monarchy is one all of Hawaiian blood
should keep in sight.
