Set during 1967 in the chalklands of Southern England, the novel Scutchamer Knob, revolves around a disparate group of young people that come together to form a pop group: George Herbert, son of an eccentric aristocrat; Trevor, Roy and Terry, working class mods; Cyn, budding bohemian intellectual; and Damon, middle class proto hippie. Always in the background is the brooding presence of the Knob, witness to the tribulations of the group. It is a story of tangled affairs, clash of cultures and unseen sinister forces at work.
