ByKelly Beckman

WILLIAM JOSEPH KELLY JOINS THE UNION ARMY IN SANDUSKY OHIO AS A VOLUNTEER IN THE 123RD REGIMENT, COMPANY G. THIS A GLIMPSE OF A MAN, THE LIFE AND TIMES DURING THE CIVIL WAR. THE WAR RAGES ON! WITH THE SOUNDS OF BULLETS, BUGLES AND CANNONFIRE! WE LEARNED OF HIS BAPTISM INTO BATTLE, BLOODY EARTH,YELLING AND SCREAMING; NO GAINS, NO GLORY! THE BATTLEFIELDS EXPOSED THEM TO TERRIBLE DANGER EACH DAY. A NEW MAN WAS FORGED IN THE HEAT OF BATTLE. THE BATTLE OF CEDAR CREEK WAS IMPORTANT AS BULL RUN OR ANNAPOLIS! GREAT GENERALS AND GREAT BATTLE PLANS WERE EXPENDED. IT WAS UP TO MEN LIKE HIM TO PROTECT THE SHENANDOAH VALLEY, THE GATEWAY TO THE NORTH. THE OUTCOME OF THE BATTLE WOULD SHAPE THE UNION'S MORALE TO LAST THE WAR. WILLIAM CAME HOME A DIFFERENT MAN! HE WOULD OVERCOME CRIPPLING INJURIES TO RAISE A NEW GENERATION OF "SOLDIERS' AND BRAVE WOMEN. HE CHANGED OUR FAMILY HISTORY AS THE WAR CHANGED OUR NATION. LAST IT WAS PEOPLE, LIKE KELLY, NOT WARS OR IDEAS OR GOVERNMENTS OR GREAT GENERALS WHO CHANGED HISTORY!
