Novation LaunchPad Mini Mk3 Overlays for Virtual Pipe Organs by Kenneth Spencer
The organ of the Cathedral in Salisbury, England was built by Henry Willis of London (England) in 1877.
This document contains a two-page set of A4 Overlays for v.III of the Hauptwerk Virtual Pipe Organ of Salisbury Cathedral, England. The sample set is produced by Milan Digital Audio, of the USA. The overlays allow easy selection of individual stops, and of favourite organs, and starting & cessation of Audio & MIDI recording.
If your Mk3 LaunchPads have a black top row of buttons, place a strip of white paper behind the overlay to see the displayed functions.
The overlays are also provided horizontally flipped to reduce wear on the printed surface.
Print each overlay page on a sheet of A4 transparency film, as used with overhead projectors. The divisions of the organ are named and demarcated in yellow. With a colour laser printer, this is gives sufficient contrast against the black background of the LaunchPad. It appears in a shade of grey with a monochrome printer.
To set up the overlays with the organ, take the Hauptwerk software through it's "MIDI Learn" routines for each function in the top row of buttons, once you have loaded the organ and attached the overlays to your LaunchPads with Velcro tabs. In HWv4, all options are “per Organ”, whereas later versions may support once-only configuration under “General Settings”. Recording, PC & HW Off, and Cued Favourite options, are under “MIDI key triggers – Advanced ...”. Stop and Coupler options are all under “Organ Settings”. In either case, bring up the list, select the item of interest from the left pane, and click on “Auto-detect” in the right pane. Then, pressing the button beneath each labelled area of the overlay will cause that area to activate the menu function, stop, coupler or piston.
Do not print with the "Fit to Print Area" option - select the "None" option to print “actual size”.
As the Salisbury Organ cannot fit onto a single LaunchPad, we have produced two-pages, with the divisions arranged symmetrically about the keyboard centre, providing access for both left & right hand use when playing.
If you would prefer to have the overlays printed on A4 transparency sheets for you, and posted, please email [email protected].
Thank you for your interest: we hope that he overlays improve the playability of this sample set on your Hauptwerk organ!
