The Absurdity of Abstracts

ByKim Dallesandro

Usually printed in 3 - 5 business days
“There are ways to kill a person without ever touching them, without ever being around them. Did you know that?” Martin and Julia have a strange and complicated relationship that is coming to an end. As they enter the final stages of the convoluted dance of litigation, we see the various layers of the enigma that is their marriage peeled away like decaying wallpaper, showing the buried mechanisms of grief and trauma underneath. An atmosphere of mistrust and menace permeates the proceedings and the threat of actual violence seems never far away. Kim Dallesandro paints characters with a razor sharp focus that is matched by a broad compassion for our human (all too human) condition. As the reader watches her characters, (as if under a magnifying glass), we feel uncomfortable in our identification with them, but at the end there is usually a resolution and - if not happiness - at least an understanding and a promise of hope.
