Begna Yibka

In this book, I detail the treacherous journey of African migrants often embark to the Middle East with the hope of a better future. I am a first hand witness to the hardships faced by these migrants. In the early 2000’s, I travelled across the Red sea to enter Yemen illegally. During my journey, fellow migrants and I were abused and exploited by human traffickers. My unique experience has inspired me to tell the story of the many faceless men and women, whose struggle mirrors mine. Furthermore, I wrote this book in the hope of discouraging African youth from embarking on such unsafe journey. I also intend to initiate a rigorous public debate on how to best solve the migrant crisis by informing the wider public of the journey’s dangers. All of the characters and their stories, narrated in the book, are based on the realities I experienced to the best of my knowledge and recollections.
