Climate Imperialism in Africa
Critical Commentary on the Political Economy of Global Climate Change Regime
Usually printed in 3 - 5 business days
This book is written to examine the political economy of global climate change regime, and the place of Africa. The book examines the current climate change situation in terms of economic and political factors, especially in relation to rising GHG emissions, driving climate change, and the impact it is having on our planet and humanity. The book further analyses the economics of climate solutions being offered, and the incongruity between commitments by capitalist governments and big businesses, and their real actions. The book looks at various alternatives on offer both from the conventional sources and radical alternatives.
The second and the third part of the book looks at the climate change regime in Africa. It reviews current level of development in the current as well as its political economy. It further looks at the state of climate change and global warming in Africa, and the level of impacts (physical, economic and social) it is having and will have on the continent. The book analyses the place of Africa in the current global climate change regime, and concludes that Africa will be subjected to a new round, possibly worse, of imperialist control, otherwise called Climate Imperialism. This is premised on empirical analysis of data and various evaluations already carried out.
Furthermore, the book undertakes evaluation of Africa’s political and business classes, and the roles it can and cannot play. Importantly, the book identifies various social forces who can and must play role in championing climate justice not only for Africa in the global climate change regime, but for the majority of poor and working people of the continent. Finally, the book provides an alternative socio-economic alternative to the capitalist economic relations, as a basis of fundamentally changing the course of history for the better.
