In the aftermath of the horrendous Sandy Hook School shootings on December 14th 2012, many were left wondering how to respond. As a new year’s resolution, graphic artist Kreg Yingst chose to find a prayer per week and speak it, or rather carve it, through image and text. The medium chosen to create the image, the block print, is in fact a black rectangle when printed prior to manipulation and reveals “light” as each piece is carved away. Yingst felt the visual metaphor appropriate. Included in this book are 52 portrait-prayer block prints, and 157 prayers and meditations.
This project is dedicated to the 26 people, children and teachers, who lost their lives on that dark, dark day.
