The book presents the theory of the technical loss of stability of columns, which was developed on the basis of the experimental results.
The study considered cases of slender columns axially compressed by force with ball-and-socket joints or compressed by force at the free end of the column with the second end fixed.
According to this theory, the loss of carrying capacity occurs when the line of the external forces leaves the critical cross-section.
The theory allows determining the courses of the functions of the differential equation of the elastic line and the critical stress of columns as the surface function depending on the slenderness ratio and the cross section area – unlike in the Euler’s theory.
The theory allows determining the shell stresses and strains of columns loosing their stability. The historical Euler’s theory already should not be used in an engineering practice.
