A Study of the Expression of Lawrence Durrell’s Heraldic Universe

This thesis explores some of the sources and idioms that influenced Durrell when he created his unique Heraldic Universe which is inherent in all of Durrell’s major works. It also illustrates how he applied his system to his writing by referring to four of his key literary novels: The Black Book, The Alexandria Quartet, The Revolt of Aphrodite and The Avignon Quintet.
