"After many years of study and practice I came to the realization that people of color were marginalized within American Buddhism. I found this to be true for some more than others. I believe that until Buddhism in America is equally accessible for all, diversity is a work in progress that is currently unable to deliver what it purports to be. In particular, these poems give voice to my determination to validate the experiences of black men and their families who are looking for a place to call home in the American Buddhist experience."
