Sherman Baylor has lived in this house for sixty years. He raised a family and lost a wife and son here. He lived on and worked the farm that existed here just as his father and his grandfather before him had done. But the farm is no longer, and his family is no longer. He is here alone in a world that has outgrown him. But Jennifer, the pretty young woman who buys the new tract home next door to his regal old house, intrigues him, and he begins to think of life again. She is, however, much too young, and he is much too old. He can never tell her of his love, of his passion for more life to live with her, of his loneliness, of the conflict within him over his feelings for her and his love of the memory of his deceased wife. He cannot speak of the dreams he has of love and of life. He cannot speak of the demons that lie hidden inside the gentleman the world sees when they look at this old man, in the old house, in the new world he now inhabits.
