The centrepiece of this book is a reprint of George Curzon's 1926 'Bodiam Castle, Sussex: A Historical and Descriptive Survey'. The Survey is the most comprehensive work ever published on the Castle.
His Survey is accompanied by the work of three other earlier works.
William Cotton was the first person to write a book dedicated to the Castle in 1831. His short 'A Graphic and Historical Sketch of Bodyam Castle in Sussex' sets a baseline for the writers who came afterwards.
Mark Lower was a local antiquarian who wrote extensively about Sussex. His book 'Bodiam and its Lords' was first produced in 1857, but the revised 1871 version is included here.
George T. Clark became renowned as ‘Castles Clark’ for his extensive recording and analysis of British Castles. His inclusion of Bodiam Castle in his two volume 1884 book Mediaeval Military Architecture in England was an important mark of the Castle’s importance.
