The intention of The Hudson Academy and Residences is to create a mixed use community focused on re-engaging the learning environment. The most important way to achieve this is to concentrate on the design of the school in relation to the effect architecture has on one’s ability to retain knowledge, their attention span, the way they behave, how comfortable they are in the space, and so forth. Additionally the building must interact properly with the existing community and context. By studying the environment in which the proposed building will be in and the community around it one will be able to understand how to build something new within an old community context. Lastly, in order to achieve re-engaging the learning environment a mixed use building must be developed that gives families the space they need through a residential component that will work side by side with the school in order to engage into the community and context of the City of Detroit.
