This collection of short stories is based upon a selection of those authors marked out for mention in H.P.Lovecraft’s seminal essay “Supernatural Horror in Literature,” first published in 1927 and revised in 1936, the year before his untimely death. The authors whose works are reproduced here are a roll call of the famous from the past including Guy de Maupassant, Ambrose Bierce, M.R. James, Bram Stoker, Sir Arthur Conan Doyle, Edgar Allen Poe, Robert Louis Stevenson and Sir Edward Bulwer Lytton, among others.
