Memories of a Black Native Oregonian

These recollections are being written to testify to the history and survival of two African American families in Oregon in the early 1900's. Coming up with the different paths to get to this place in my life journey makes me feel lucky I survived. My parents knew they had achieved many of their goals, too. They knew the hardship of racism in our country, but both always made sure we understood we had a right to be regardless of our color. My siblings and I had parents who were aware, engaged, and always open to new ideas and methods. This is my story of how we made it through all the struggles, the injustice, and the pain, but I can tell the world that I made it, and God allowed me to publish this book for all to see that I am a survivor. My message to the world is that we all have a right to "Be."
