Kiso Kim is a candlemaker and storyteller in Fifteenth century England. The children in the village loved to gather around him as he told his tales and played his small hand held squeezebox. While on an outing with the children Kiso Kim is gored by a wild boar as he saves one of the children from the boar's attack. The attack leaves an ugly scar on his face. As time passes a family moves into the village with a daughter that Kiso Kim secretly falls in love with. Feeling he does not stand a chance to win her love with his scared face he finds a sorcerer who agrees to erase the scar and give him greater elegance. For this he must pledge his sole to the devil. After the deal is struck Kim finds out, to his dismay, he was loved the way he was. He now must try to reverse his pledge and return to his former self.
