“The only thing we can do is try to build something for ourselves,” said Patrizio. “Every experience, every goal, every dream becomes a brick, and if we build slowly, piece by piece, one day we’ll make it.” Brick by brick. Piece by piece. Internship by apprenticeship by scholarship. Pieces tells the stories of twenty Tuscan youth working every day to piece together their experiences, their triumphs, and their failures, to build and to grow and to "make it" in an Italy still recovering from the economic crisis that shook the world in 2008. All twenty are beneficiaries of Giovanisì, a youth program run and funded by the Region of Tuscany and the European Social Fund. Within these pages is the story of an Italy that is working, and working hard, to riuscire, to succeed, to keep moving forward, despite the obstacles and the economics and the politics that attempt to stand in its way.
