Room For My Lens
A look back at the first 20 years of my career: Photographs and Stories
Usually printed in 3 - 5 business days
This book is dedicated to the first twenty years of my freelance photography career in Philadelphia during the 1980s and 1990s. At this time, photography as a whole, and especially in the corporate world I was making my way into, was still a male dominated industry. The press pools were largely occupied by men, and I competed with freelance male photographers for (almost) every assignment, armed with my skills and unyielding convictions. I did my part to help in shattering the glass ceiling, building on the strengths and determination of women that came before me. Their ability to fill roles once held by men, allowed them to hire female contractors, creating more opportunities for women such as myself, hence making "room for my lens".
During my career as a professional photographer, I was lucky enough to meet people from all walks of life, both professional and celebrity. I paved my way through the city and their world with my 35mm manual camera equipment and Tri-X film (the old days!). Philadelphia itself is an ever-present backdrop to my story. Its where I went to college and found my footing in my career. Perhaps an even more powerful influence on my life and career, was and still is, my family. They were always my favorite subjects to photograph.
My goal for this book is to share my photographs and stories of the people and places I visited. To take you, the reader, on a tour of my career in Philadelphia at a time of immense change.
