Over a century ago Zeehan, on the rugged west coast of Tasmania, was a bustling and lively mining town of over 8,000 people and the third largest in the state. In 1898 the magnificent 1,000 seat Gaiety Theatre was built by an enterprising Edward Mulcahy to hold attractions, events and performances of a wonderful variety, which were described in detail by the reporters of "The Zeehan and Dundas Herald."
