Schiff bases are compounds similar to aldehyde or ketone in which an imine or azomethine group replaces the carbonyl group. Schiff bases are some of the most extensively used organic compounds. They are used as catalysts, pigments and dyes, intermediates in organic synthesis, and as polymer stabilizers. They are widely used for industrial resolutions and also exhibit a wide range of biological activities, including antifungal, antibacterial, antiproliferative, antimalarial, anti-inflammatory, antipyretic and antiviral properties.
