By paying attention to the history of civilizations and their cultural achievements, we see how songs have always appeared as a way of expressing the feelings that every single person has. They have become something that unites us and helps us to create relations or feelings of sympathy, solidarity and tolerance.
Songs appear as poetic vehicles in literary creations to recreate experiences of a person, a community, a village, or a country. Thus, singing and knowing these songs makes us part of a culture and its traditions.
The use of songs in English classroom assists not only from a linguistic point of view (when vocabulary, structures, phonetics, rhythm and intonation are reviewed), but also they allow the development of extra-linguistic factors. There are a number of these factors such as the use of gestures or mimes and increasing levels of motivation, interest and self-esteem.
