Slot Car Magazine - September 2018 Issue 45

ByMarc AbbottRic Woods

I’ve had a very varied time on the driving front since we last were with you, pounding round the test track with two Carrera cars, the latest Thunderslot McLaren and finally a Flyslot truck… It did bring home to me how lucky we are to be living in an era where the quality of slot cars is the best it has ever been. From the flawless tampo work on the Carrera duo to the brilliant performance of the Thunderslot M6, we are a million miles away from where we were twenty years ago. The best thing is that no longer do you have to choose between a car that will look good but can barely stagger round the track or a car that will go well but has the looks only its mother could love. We (OK, make that I) will always find something to moan about, of course, such as Gulf liveries being slapped on all sorts of inapplicable vehicles purely because they make money, but generally speaking we’re very well off at the moment. Even that Fly 917LH horror is starting to fade from the memory… almost.
