Dear friends, I’ve been involved in the journey of many individuals nearing the end of life. It’s evident that amidst the emotional intensity of caregiving and conversations with families, there’s often confusion about the wishes of the dying person. These vital discussions are frequently left unaddressed.
Recognizing the discomfort surrounding conversations about death, I’ve developed "Exit Interview." This tool, presented in a friendly workbook format, is designed to gently facilitate these crucial conversations. It's 34 pages, with easy type to read. You can fill it in with pencil and erase as needed. The book contains fun illustrations, which give it a more relaxed presentation. There is a chapter on current and evolving death practices as well. As both a nurse and the creator of "Exit Interview," I’m dedicated to supporting the navigation of these discussions.
"Exit Interview" is for you if:
• You want to be able to improve your communication and be more comfortable around death and dying issues.
• You are helping someone with serious illness, who may be approaching end of life. You may be a family member, a Hospice worker, a Death Doula, or a helper of any kind to someone facing end-of-life issues.
• You have a friend or family member who has life threatening illness or is in early dementia, and you want to ask them their wishes before it’s too late.
• You want to start coming to grips with your own mortality.
• You have a life-threatening illness and want others to know your wishes.
• You don’t have a life-threatening illness, but you realize things do happen and you want to cover your bases for practical reasons.
• You want to take some of the stress out of end of life care for yourself and for the ones you love. This book will let others know your wishes, and will decrease the amount of their stress over the practical details so they can focus on what is really important.
