This book addresses key issues in China - such as infanticide, son-preference, suppression of sexuality, homosexuality, and the sexism embedded in culture and society. For this reason, Xinran had to leave China in order to write the book, which was published in Britain. So this is a great book about the women in China, highlighting that sometimes the touch of a fly - an insect - is the only love that Chinese girls get, because many Chinese women don't get any love from society, which has been made cold and uncaring by the tyrannical CCP [Chinese Communist Party]. It also emphasizes that in China sympathy if often mistaken for love, trapping people into unhappy marriages. Many Chinese couples who married between 1950 and 1980 fell into that trap, when the CCP took political power in China by force. Many men and women married with feelings of sympathy and perhaps of lust, but not of love. Only after marriage did they discover that what had attracted their pity ultimately repelled them, leaving their family lives emotionally barren. On that note we encourage all People in China not to marry out of sympathy or lust - or because they want to climb the social ladder in the CCP - but out of Love. As evidenced by this journalistic study, rape and sexual violence is also a big problem in China. Even though there is an element of inevitability of sexual violence in most societies - due to the evil that men do - the CCP is responsible for attacking and stifling press freedom in China, making it very difficult for journalists to report sexual violence, and bringing perpetrators of rape and domestic violence to Justice. To stop domestic- and gender violence in China, it is imperative that CCP officials in China honor the UN Charter and Universal Declaration of Human Rights (UDHR), and stop arresting journalists and human rights activists for exercising their rights of Freedom of Press and Speech. If the CCP can't understand this basic fact - that Press Freedom is essential to uphold Human Rights, Child Rights and the Rule of Law in China - we need to get rid of the illegitimate CCP by revolution.
