Demeter and her Daughters

Demeter and her Daughters

ByMary Scriver

Usually printed in 3 - 5 business days
The ancient story of Demeter, goddess of agriculture, (sometimes called Ceres the source of our word, cereal), and her daughter (who might be one of several possibilities, like Persephone, Proserpine, Kore) and how the daughter was kidnapped by Hades/Pluto, the god of death and the underworld, is so old and durable it has been told many times. This version is a Western. Many of the ancient features (bees sacred to Demeter, a black horse, a black dog, her friend Hecate) have been included but translated into a slightly different form. Those "in the know" will have fun recognizing these. Those just beginning to read mythology will have handholds for more formal studies.
