Child Evangelism

A church Vacation Bible School ended with 100 children being challenged to "make their decision" for Jesus. In the sanctuary were two metal garbage cans; one labeled "heaven" and the other "hell" and the kids were told to make their choice by placing a piece of paper with their name on it into one of the two cans. By doing so they would indicate their choice for or against Jesus. By the way, the can marked "hell" had a burning fire inside of it... Is this a wise and biblical method of child evangelism? Is there a better way? How can we evangelize children without manipulating them or pressuring them to make a profession of faith before they are genuinely converted?
