Imagining Brighton Urban Village - UBC Master of Urban Design, Class of 2024

The outcome of this studio was a broad understanding of how to synthesize a variety of social, environmental and economic factors to achieve a unique district plan in a complex urban environment, and to empathize and understand the range of user groups that a project needs to meaningfully accommodate to strengthen the community fabric. 2-3 key considerations such as climate adaptive landscapes, cultural vibrance, blue green infrastructure, walkability, indigeneity, equitable housing were selected as key areas of focus. A personal thanks to the 19 students who persevered through the complexities of this project, most of whom are newcomers to Vancouver, and who enriched the conversations with their unique geographical and cultural perspectives from their places of origin. And thanks to the invited guests who shared their knowledge and expertise through a range of engagement sessions, design charrettes and reviews.
