This booklet describes milestones and highlights in life of Kathleen Louise Young (1931-2022) and in the lives of her extended family. These stories are worth knowing in themselves. But they are also threads that weave into the larger history of Nebraska and even into issues of climate change, spirituality and world peace. Kay has an ethnobotanist’s way of relating to the world. As comes clear in this booklet, students of folklore and ethnology like Kay identify and preserve the diverse cultural DNA of humanity. This ethnobotany foundation developed into what I see as Kay’s philosophy. This philosophy is a valuable legacy that could help us navigate the XXIst century.
