History of Assyria from 4500 BC to 1940 AD

Meneshi S. Amira was born in 1906 in the village of Chamakiye in Urmia. He attended American Mission schools in Urmia and completed his theological studies in 1933. In 1949 he became an official of the National Iranian Oil Company. In addition to writing poetry, he collected extensive material on Assyrian history which he compiled in his “History of Assyria from 4500 BC to 1940 AD.” It was published in 1962 by the Assyrian Youth Literary Society in Iran. Although it was soon followed by a larger history by Eshaya David, it is the first history in the Assyrian language to be published that attempted to cover the whole of Assyrian history from ancient until modern times. Profusely illustrated, it helped to inspire interest and pride in their heritage among countless Assyrians.
