Merriam Press is fully owned and operated by Ray Merriam. Merriam Press was started in 1988 as a continuation of what Ray had been doing since January 1968, when he started publishing a small World War II history magazine. The magazine, while well accepted, was not financially viable and in the 1980s Ray switched to publishing small booklets. By the mid-1990s, he began publishing full-length books, doing the printing and binding in-house. Ray started using Lulu in December 2005, and now has over 200 titles in print through Lulu, with more being added regularly. The emphasis has been on World War II topics, but in recent years other topics,such as American Civil War, Turn of the 19th Century, World War I, Korean War, Vietnam, and the Gulf War have been added. The majority of the titles published are non-fiction, with fiction having been recently added to the line-up. There are also reprints of out of print works and manuals.
