After a jazz funeral to honor the onset of hurricane season, an eclectic group of only in New Orleans characters gather to call on the spirit of Papa Fat, a griot ghost who weaves a bluesy tale capturing the history, culture, and struggle of The City That Care Forgot. Featuring lyrical rhymed and metered prose, and including spoken word poetry, storytelling, sketch comedy, blues and hip hop song, The Second Line is a jazz novel in the tradition of Jean Toomer’s Cane. The Second Line also includes a Glossary of New Orleans Terms to Know, a list of 250 interesting facts, places, and people that make the Big Easy such a unique culture.
