Luke was a smart guy. Luke should have known better, should have known that infinite patience, meticulous planning and a robust sense of humour were as nothing in the face of outrageous fortune. His itinerary was both seamless and full of promise: Howard in Melbourne, Shoji in Sydney, onto Ben in Singapore, then home to Tomio in London for five days before Tomio flew out to Vancouver and Jimmie arrived from Hong Kong. This network was, of course, no more than the time-blessed axiom of a girl in every port reworked for its gay creator as a boy at every airport.
The trip was just days ahead when, unforeseen, the accident struck. The event was to change his life and impact profoundly on the lives of his little gang. So who better to tell this story than the vivacious founder of the network? As for the accident in waiting, the suspicion that fate has interventions at its disposal when we least expect them, well, you will just have to draw your own conclusions. Luke, as you will learn, has already done so.
