Let’s Start a Football Team

ByMick Northwood

Before joining Sport England, I worked as a Community Worker in the inner city so was fairly adept at recognising signs and strengths. The first time I visited Long Lane to meet Mick there was an arrival of vans and cars to be there with him. These were people bunking off work because of their belief in Long Lane and what Mick was delivering. I was never happier than helping Long Lane a lottery grant-richly deserved and richly repaid. Mick believes in physical literacy but equally importantly in social literacy. A lion. John Hadley Formal Senior Development Officer London Region Sport England ______________________________________________________________________ I have been looking forward to reading this book about Micks life growing up in South London and his love of football on and off the field of play. He has a great sense of humour which is a rare breed, and he will tell you numerous funny stories about his family life as a youngster, meeting his wife Tina, supporting Millwall and of course his beloved club Long Lane JFC where he has dedicated so much of his life and time too. Long Lane JFC is a huge part of his and his family's lives. Mick is a genuine, passionate, dedicated, committed, strong-willed, trustworthy, dependable, loyal, positive, person who has given opportunities to so many Male and Female footballers. I am in awe of him! Josie Clifford Formal Senior Development Officer London Football Association ______________________________________________________________________ Long Lane is truly moulded in the vision and commitment that is Mick Northwood. A tower of strength, visionary and determined to create a legacy that will benefit generations of young people. John Fahy Greenwich Council Ward Councillor for Kidbrooke
