The Complete Winnie Winkle: Volume 2 (PB)
Midcentury Comics #726-PB: More Hilarious Stories Of The Hardest Working Gal In Comics!
Usually printed in 3 - 5 business days
Modern readers can be forgiven for not recognizing WINNIE WINKLE, since she has been gone from comics strips for nearly 30 years, but as one of the longest running strips in the 20th Century, and a ground-creaking set of story arcs, her place in American comics history is well-earned. WILLIE WINKLE was one of the earliest “working girl” comics, a young lady supporting her parents and adopted brother. She even got married and lost her husband in the War, while pregnant – for the day, certainly serious and unusual circumstances. But through it all there was humor! WINNIE never failed to entertain and bring chuckles.
Her comic book run is modest, with two issues in the Dell Four-Color series and then seven of her own title. The earlier issues are straight newspaper reprints, while later issues are most likely adapted from the newspaper to fit the comic story format. The stories were written and drawn by Martin Branner, who was the force behind WINNIE for 42 years!
