Promethian Greeks and Young Turks

1821. Greeks rise up against the Turks who have oppressed them for 400 in a revolution fueled with international ideals of freedom, but not a whole lot of experience in making a revolution work. ‘Dimitri’, as he calls himself, is an overly educated young idealist who breaks ranks with his father, a pro-Turk Islamic viceroy in Egypt, by joining the Greeks. When attempting to enlist in the revolt as a doctor, scientist and journalist, Dimitri falls in love with Voula, a low born Greek peasant who is (to her local band anyway) ‘Queen of the revolutionary bandits’, keeping his real identity a secret. Voula is also loved by Panos, her illiterate right hand advisor in battle who wants to be more, and who mistrusts any foreigners, particularly overly literate ones. Add to the mix, Father Basili, a Pacifist whose beliefs and sanity are changed rapidly after experiencing too much bloodshed. In a war that not only involves guns, swords and bayonets, but a new innovation---germ warfare.
