Bronchial asthma is considered commonest chronic inflammatory diseases affecting children and young adults and has high morbidity and mortality rate. Many cells and cellular elements such as mast cells, eosinophils, T lymphocytes, macrophages, neutrophils and epithelial cells play a role in the pathogenesis of asthma. Among these inflammatory cells, T lymphocytes play major roles. Previous evidence suggests that interleukin-17A (IL-17A) production by TH17 cells or macrophages can also contribute to allergic asthma. In addition, it has been demonstrated that TH2 and TH17 responses can act synergistically to
promote bronchial asthma. Therefore, an improved understanding of the cellular and molecular mechanisms that regulate TH2 and TH17 effectors responses might lead to novel therapeutic strategies to prevent or control bronchial asthma.
