Patrick Rust is an idiot who and is the only one who doesn't think so. He believes chasing Communism in the Middle East is his way out of Thatcher's Britain, so he joins the exodus to Israel and joins a kibbutz before travelling down to Egypt. Before long he gets way in over his head with a group of direputable characters in the Sinai Desert. Will he wake up in time and hear the voices calling him home or will the hailstones of the Red Sea claim him?
