In early 1980s Britain, one in eight people are out of work and a generation of young people are leaving Britain in their droves. For Patrick Rust, travelling to Israel and onwards to Egypt looks like a way out of the winter dole queue. What could be easier than spending six months in the sunshine working the land and meeting girls from all around the world? Unfortunately for an unstable Patrick, things aren’t as clear-cut as they are in Thatcher’s Britain. As he finds out more about the complexities of Israel and Palestine, a train of violent and fateful events are unleashed that take him to the edge of sanity.
