purpose of this book is to present and analyze the portrayal of female gender roles in three selected plays from the modern drama. The plays are Arms and the man(1894)of the Irish playwright George Bernard Shaw, A doll’s house(1897) of the Norwegian playwright Henrik Ibsen and Riders to the sea(1901)of the Irish playwright John Millington Synge.
