Twenty Something is a composition that has been in the pipeline for the last four years, conceived from a poem I wrote back in 2017. This book shares a very vital period of transition in my life, from teen-hood to adulthood, detailing an emotional rollercoaster through times of being alive, and times when we’re only trying to live. Part one shares the excitement into this new age, the fun and thrills of it all, and the all the adventure within and around us. It brings out the carefree want-it-all attitude of a wonderer lost in a long promised land, trying to experience every moment while it lasts with the least regrets (I hope that regret part will be true). Here, life is more of a verb than noun and any chance we get at trying out new experiences is more welcomed than the second coming. This part helped realise the beauty of life, freedom, relationships, youth, and why we should always fight to safeguard such blessings as we progress in life. Part two is testimony to the turmoil and stress we go through in finding ourselves and what really speaks to our existence, because the universe must test you when it sees you grow. This part describes a period of loss, confusion, disappointments, too much pressure and uncertainty but it’s through such moments where I learnt that vulnerability is only manifested in courage and it’s up to me to express it in a healthy way. Life isn’t always rosy and sometimes the good times make us forget this fact. It is through experiencing these tides that we learn to swim our way around the ocean and learn to take accountability of our own misery for it’s nobody’s job to make your life easier or happy.
